Angel Locsin, No Show in GMA-7 Anniversary

MANILA, Philippines -- Questions were raised on the non-attendance of young actress Angel Locsin in the anniversary celebration of GMA-7 on the Sunday noontime show “SOP.”

Angel’s absence was glaring because viewers observed she was the only GMA-7 talent missing in the roster of Kapuso artists in the show.

A well-placed source in the production staff of “SOP” said Angel was having a “commercial shoot” during the time of the celebration, hence her absence in the show. However, according to reports published on several tabloids Tuesday, an unnamed personal assistant (PA) of Angel disclosed that the actress was just at her home waiting for a call from GMA-7 to give her a go-signal to proceed to their studios for the event. The call never came, much to the surprise of the actress, the report said.

But after GMA-7 planned to do a local version of the international hit telenovela “Marimar” and eyed her to portray the lead role, unconfirmed reports said Angel had turned down the role, an allegation that led to more negative reports on the actress. The succeeding reports painted a negative picture of Angel, including charges that she was an “ingrate” and a “monster.” GMA-7 had since denied offering the role to Angel and held open auditions for the role of “Marimar.” The part eventually went to Marian Rivera.

GMA-7 also defended Angel against the damaging reports—an action which the actress allegedly expected the network to have done during the onset of the charges. Since then Angel was reported to have considered leaving the network.
