Martin to celebrate 25th year in showbiz with concert

Nakausap ng PEP (Philippine Portal Entertainment) si Martin Nievera kahapon, August 6, isang araw bago siya bumalik ng Las Vegas kasama ang live-in partner niyang si Katrina Ojeda at ang baby nilang si Santino. Sa isang function room ng Mandarin Hotel ginawa ang presscon ng kanyang two-night concert sa Captain's Bar of the same hotel sa September 14 & 15 titled Milestone.

Kasama sa 25th anniversary sa showbiz ni Martin ang concert na maliit kumpara sa

mga nakaraang anniversary concerts niya. Ito'y dahil sa maraming concert ng local artists ang naka-line up sa big venues starting October 6 (Billy Crawford), Oct. 19 (Erik Santos), hanggang sa December 7 birthday concert ng ex-wife ni Martin na si Pops Fernandez.

Ayon kay Martin, sa Araneta Coliseum unang binalak ng XVR Events gawin ang major concert na hindi niya pinaboran dahil sa concert ni Erik. Next date na napili ay Dec. 8, the day after Pops's concert na hindi rin pumuwede.

"I backed out on both dates. I bowed out gracefully. Let Erik and Pops have their moments. I can have my major concert next year, during my 26th anniversary. I might also do a Valentine's Day concert, let's see," kuwento ni Martin.

Sa tanong kung bakit sa small venue gaya ng Captain's Bar niya gagawin ang concert to celebrate his 25th anniversary, ipinaliwanag ni Martin na special sa kanya ang venue dahil dito niya ginawa ang kanyang comeback concert after nilang maghiwalay ni Pops. It was the time of his life na real friends na lang ang naiwan sa kanya at hindi inasahang marami pa rin pala siyang fans na sumuporta at nanood sa kanya.

KATRINA & POPS. It was also one interview na nasentro sa personal life ni Martin ang mga tanong. Gaya ng, is life better with Katrina or better off without Pops?

"I can't compare the two, because one can get hurt. There are a lot of things better with Katrina and there are great things with Pops before. It's hard to compare," sagot ng Concert King.

Eleven years na ang on-and-off relationship nina Martin at Katrina at nagsama lang daw sila nang magkaroon na sila ng baby.

"Katrina entered my life when I was still with Pops. She's the best thing for me right now. She's the best thing that ever happened to me. She makes me very happy, she tends to me when I'm sick, she's a hands-on mother. She'll be a perfect mother and wife," pahayag ni Martin.

Speaking of wife, wala pa ba silang planong magpakasal ni Katrina?

"No plans yet, but I'm sure she'll be a perfect partner. As it is, the only thing missing between us is the ring."

Hindi nauubusan si Martin ng good adjectives in describing his partner. Grounded daw ito, from planet Earth at never nagselos kahit sinasabi niya on national TV na love niya si Pops.

"She [Katrina] knows I love the mother of my children," sabi ni Martin. "I never said naman that I'm in love with Pops. All I said was I love Pops. I'm in love with Katrina now, I think I've always been in love with her."

Bago umalis, nagpalitan pa ng text messages sina Martin at Pops, pero hindi sila nag-away, kundi pinag-usapan ang balak ng eldest son nilang si Robin Nievera na mag-aral ng music sa isang school sa Boston. Hindi na nag-elaborate si Martin.

Ayaw na rin i-touch ni Martin ang "monkey" issue na pinag-ugatan ng katatapos na word war nila ng ex-wife. Tinapos nito ang issue sa pahayag na, "Alam ng tao na hindi ako pipili ng girl na hindi mamahalin ang kids ko. My kids know that their Tita Katrina loves them. She fixes their clothes and put them in the drawer."

Inimbita rin ni Martin sina Pops at Jomari Yllana to spend Christmas with them sa Las Vegas at sa bahay nila ni Katrina. Alam na raw ito ni Pops at sinabi rin ni Ram Nievera sa ina na iniimbita sila ng kanyang "Tito Jomari" sa Las Vegas sa Pasko.

"Christmas, we'll be together, so I invited Pops and Jomari to spend it with us. I won't deprive my kids of being with their mom, but Pops has some commitments. My kids call Jomari 'Tito Jomari' and I have no problem with that. I'm very cool with that and I've been that way with the other guys. Let me be friends with the guy that loves Pops so much and I thank him for taking care of Pops for me," pagtatapos ni Martin.
