Marimar GMA: Marian the next big star?

MOTHER Lily Monteverde is obviously anticipating that the localized version of “Marimar” will make Marian Rivera a big star. The soap has yet to be shown on GMA-7 but she already signed up Marian to star in two of her entries in the coming December Metro-Manila Filmfest. In “Bahay Kubo,” written by RJ Nuevas, Marian will play one of Maricel Soriano’s adopted daughters, along with Shaina Magdayao and Yasmien Kurdi. In “Desperadas,” the story of four sisters who have one mother, Annabelle Rama, but different fathers, she will play the role of the young bride originally meant for Ruffa Gutierrez.

“Ikakasal siya rito sa isang basketball player na nang makilala ang father niyang pastor, naging born-again Christian at ayaw na ng pre-marital sex,” says supervising producer Manny Valera. “Ruffa will get the role meant originally for Gretchen Barretto, that of a social climber who lives beyond her means. Iza Calzado will get the role of Dawn Zulueta, a lady lawyer, while Rufa Mae Quinto will get the role meant for Pops Fernandez, that of a sexologist na parang Margie Holmes.”

STAR DOG

DO you know that aside from the star who’ll play the title role of “Marimar,” they also conducted a search for the dog who’ll play Fulgoso, Marimar’s pet dog? This was conducted for several weeks in GMA-7’s morning show, “Sis,” hosted by Janice and Gelli de Belen, and Carmina Villarroel. So many canines took the audition and the lucky one is Nigel. He was chosen as he not only knows several tricks but he also learns easily whatever the judges teach him. When Thalia, the original Marimar, came over to the Philippines, she was even asked about Fulgoso during the open forum in her presscon. When Nigel won, everyone conceded he deserves to win and play Fulgoso. Now, Nigel as Fulgoso, the talking dog, will be one of the reasons why you should watch out for the local version of “Marimar.”

Here’s a video posted by Paulo818 where Marian’s audition for Marimar is shown.
