KOREANS LOVE PINOY PERFORMERS
IF Pinoys lap up on those popular Koreanovelas aired in our local TV networks, Korean expats in our country go for our homegrown talents. Proof to this is the constant presence of our local artists in most of Korean activities and celebrations held here. For instance, the past year the likes of Luke Mijares, Jimmy Bondoc, Mike Chan, Red, Miss-Philippines International Nadia Lee, Jamie Rivera, and to date, Faith Cuneta and Jonalyn Viray have graced PALMAFIL’s series of trade and culture festivals.
As a matter of fact, in the latest Korean Product and Culture Festival recently held at SM Megamall, Filipino actors portrayed varied roles from famous Koreanovelas. Complete with authentic costumes, sets and props, they performed vignettes from “Jumong,” “Princess Hours” and “Jewel in the Palace.” Young local taekwondo students also exhibited their martial arts prowess.
Inasmuch as the thrust of the festival was to familiarize Filipinos not only with Korean culture and art but also with Korean products, more than 500 brands of various food items were put on display specially those coming from Jeollanam-do like green aloe and ginger tea, salted sea foods, wild raspberry wine and extract and Chosun seaweeds. Cooking ingredients like noodles, ice cream, beverage, soya drink, candies, snacks, ginseng and kimchi carrying the famous brands like Nongshim, Samjin, Globalnet, Binggrae, Sahmyook, Bacchus and Lotte were also put up for sale. There was week-long free food and drink tasting for everyone.
The event was sponsored by Korea Agri-Fisheries Trade and Industry Corporation (KATIC), a Korean government agency represented by Director Kim Chang Kuk and by the Governor’s Office of Jeollonam-Do represented by Mr. Shin Chang Seob. Due to the warm public response, PALMAFIL plans similar but bigger and more colorful events before the last quarter of this year among which is a big cooking festival of famous Korean dishes which is right now underway. The formal venue will be announced soon and the public is invited.
