Kapuso exec on Angel: We made her a star

GMA 7 executive Wilma Galvante on Angel Locsin making the big move: “We are shocked and saddened that Angel and her manager treated us this way. [Angel] could’ve been truthful about her plans. We nurtured her and made her a star. I hope she finds peace in her decision.”

Earlier, Angel, through her manager Becky Aguila, announced she was not renewing her contract with the Kapuso network. The actress’ father, Angel Colmenares, told the Inquirer that he and Aguila were negotiating with ABS-CBN.

Top of the talk shows

For those who missed the weekend’s TV show biz programs:

•Becky said Angel’s contract with GMA 7 expired on March 31, which makes her talent a freelancer now.

“We owe the [Kapuso] network Angel’s popularity,” Aguila told “The Buzz” host Boy Abunda. “Nagkatulungan naman sila. Angel did everything the network wanted.”

(Last year, Angel and Becky fought over finances. Now, Becky has only good things to say about her ward.)

•“She’s very hardworking. Matipid s’ya. Hindi mahilig gumimik. Ever since ... wala akong narinig na reklamo.”

(And some about herself, too.)

•“I’m not just Angel’s manager but also her second mother.”

•Angel’s dad was less taciturn: “Tapos na ang kontrata. In her five years with GMA 7 she helped the network in her own way.”

For real?

•Are they just playing their parts, or are Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera really smitten with each other? The two are portraying the lovers Sergio and Marimar in the local version of the Mexican hit series, on GMA 7. They had these to say about each other on “Showbiz Central”:

•Dingdong: “Nakakadala si Marian—ang energy n’ya, ang beauty n’ya.”

•Marian: “Nung unang nakita ko si Dong, nasabi ko, ‘Wow!’ Iba si Dong.”

(Hello, Karylle?)

Getting into it

•How is Iza Calzado preparing for her Hollywood movie? “’Pag wala sa harap ng camera, English nang English,” she told “Showbiz Central” host John Lapus.

•For the first time in almost three years, the Barretto sisters Gretchen, Marjorie and Claudine were publicly seen together. This happened when the three posed for snapshots with Claudine’s newborn, Santino, at the hospital last week.

•A weepy Pops Fernandez appeared on “The Buzz” to air her side of the story involving Robin and Ram, her children with Martin Nievera, and Martin’s current partner Katrina Ojeda. Pops insisted that she supports Martin’s decision to have another child with a different partner, provided that Martin “makes sure our kids are treated fairly.” Pops said she was so mad at Martin (ring a bell?) that she turned down the offer on the Sunday show “ASAP” to do a production number with her ex.

Cast of ‘Desperadas’

Final cast of “Desperadas”: Rufa Mae Quinto, Marian Rivera, Ruffa Gutierrez and Iza Calzado.

Marian Rivera seems to be the new favorite of Regal’s Mother Lily Monteverde. Marian has been cast as one of Maricel Soriano’s children in Regal’s other MMFF entry, “Bahay Kubo,” a dramatic-comic update of “All Mine to Give.”

Not this one

If Marian is the current apple of Mother Lily’s eyes, Jennylyn Mercado seems to have fallen out of favor. Jennylyn is no longer in the cast of “Bahay Kubo,” and has moved to another MMFF entry, Imus/Ignite’s sci-fi adventure, “Resiklo.”
