Cherry Pie wins Best Actress in India Fest
Cherry Pie Picache (photo) was named Best Actress at the just-concluded Osians Cine Fan Filmfest in New Delhi, India, for Seiko Films’ Foster Child, directed by Brillante Mendoza.
The jurors cited Cherry Pie ‘for her portrayal of the character Thelma, the foster mother. Cherry Pie has delivered a performance that has
managed to make even a fictional story look very much like a slice of life.’
It’s Cherry Pie’s second international Best Actress award this year, coming after the Durban International Filmfest in South Africa (for her role as a lesbian in Kaleldo, also by Mendoza).
Also this year, Cherry Pie won Best Supporting Actress (for Twilight Dancers, directed by Mel Chionglo) in the Golden Screen Awards given by a group of entertainment writers.
Winning international awards is not new to Cherry Pie. She has two Best Supporting Actress trophies from the Asian TV Awards (held in Singapore), in 1996 for the GMA telemovie Melinda and in 1998 for the ABS-CBN Maalaala Mo Kaya episode Aklat.
