ABS-CBN PRESCON: “As soon as Angel gets back, we’re signing”- Becky Aguila
Nasty rumors persistently follow Angel Locsin even after her manager Becky Aguila repeatedly clarifies the real deal about the controversies surrounding her ward. Once and for all, she says her piece to the local press with regards to the string of untruths told about Angel. And more importantly, that she’ll be coming back to her first "home".
To finally clear the clouds about the much-talked about big channel switch of her talent, Becky shares how this decision came about from the very beginning. Before her contract with GMA artist center ended in March 31, 2007, Angel was already asked by the management
to renew her contract in GMA, but she begged off, explaining that she wanted her manager, her dad Mr. Angel Colmenares, and their lawyer Atty. Jojie Alonzo to review its contents first. From here, they began toBeckyAguila consider the crucial idea of not renewing Angel’s anymore, which took them a long time before reaching their final decision.
One of their primary concerns is that their restrictions on Angel’s taping schedules were not always honored. Though Becky clearly stated that her party certainly appreciated the overwhelming projects that were given to her talent, they believe that it is equally important to give importance to Angel’s personal growth too. Aside from the fact that she wants to spend more time with her dad and cultivate a deeper relationship with her family, she also wishes to secure her future by exploring other options, that is, to open her own sportswear line "Angelactive", and at the BeckyAguilasame time, to pursue a course in business entrepreneurship – plans which were already made long before this sudden shift in her career path.
The burning question of whether to switch networks or not remained to them as they try to analyze their move. But as she went to a meeting with Ms. Wilma Galvante, SVP for GMA Entertainment TV, the opportunity to thresh things out never arose because their main discussion centered on Marimar, which they turned down because Angel deserved a much-needed break after gracing one soap after another. Another meeting in Shangri-la held last July 3, BeckyAguila2007 was also made where Becky Aguila again gave her promise that Ms. Wilma will be the first person to know if Angel will sign a new contract with them or not, before leaving for the States.
When she arrived home on July 17 (Tuesday), Becky told Mr. Colmenares during a phone call that they have to discuss the offer of GMA to Angel which they also conferred to her the next day. At that point, she recalled that their decision was not in favor of the other station already since they were expecting a "network contract". After much deliberation, they finally concluded on Thursday of the same week that they will not be signing anymore. They immediately wrote a letter addressed to Ms. Wilma Galvante, Ms. Annette Gozon-Abrogar and Atty. Felipe Gozon, GMA Network Chairman and CEO. Then came Friday wherein Becky called ABS-CBN.
Why did they opt for a letter than to handle the situation personally? "We didn’t want to add more anxiety. We don’t want to see the hurt feelings anymore." But from that moment on, they knew there was no turning back. Unfortunately, this move only fueled the circulating rumors about Angel who feels the blow even though she’s in London, finishing a crash course in fashion designing. Becky says she has been trying to hide the harsh publicity about the young star but her ward refused to be kept in the dark as she continue to receive text messages and read through the internet the cruel information that are fed in various websites. Nevertheless, they are looking forward to a fresh beginning for Angel as a Kapamilya, which is not a totally new experience for her because she first became a part of Star Circle Batch 9 prior to being a mainstay in the other channel. Concluding the extensive press conference here on ABS-CBN, Becky imparts that Angel will be home soon and that they hope things will get better by then.

why is it so difficult for GMA/ to accept angel's decision to transfer to another network? it's a career move, plain and simple! let her be. if ever it's a wrong move, she's the one to suffer its consequence - both party have had use and gained from each other. grow up, showbiz people - all this mudslinging over her decision is just too much - nakakasuka na! tama na!
^ you have to give GMA a break, they didn't exactly bend over backwards to try and get her back. Come on, I watched the aired interview of becky and angel sr. to boy abunda, becky took a swipe at GMA. People had the impression that GMA is a slave driver or something, and GMA naturally had to protect itself by reacting to the subtle accusations.
It's the fans mostly who are furious. GMA is more than anything scrambling to replace her.
