Mga Mata Ni Angelita
DID you know that the number one radio drama, “Mga Mata ni Angelita,” from the early 70’s till 1978 by Ricardo Feliciano will be given a new twist by a pool of today’s brilliant writers in a new TV series on GMA 7? It was the vehicle that catapulted the late Julie Vega to super stardom when it was made into film by Larry Santiago Productions. Even the superstars of that era knew the strength of the story and the lead actress that they agreed to appear in the movie in cameo roles. The late Fernando Poe, Jr., Ramon Revilla, Sr., Susan Roces, Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor, to name a few, did one scene each the reason why it became a big hit.
Now, on the new TV version, the title role is going to be portrayed by Kristal Reyes of “Bakekang” fame. She will play a blind girl who the Virgin Mary (to be portrayed by Lucy Torres) will give back her lost sight. Some say it seems Julie Vega has come ‘alive’ in her.
But having her sight back, she will see what the world really is, filled with pain and sins. So, in search for her long lost mother, she will be instrumental in changing the lives of people along her way.
The powerhouse cast is composed of Sheryl Cruz as Magdalena, Marvin Agustin as Gabriel (the hunchback), Tonton Gutierrez as Mayor Carlos, Celia Rodriguez as Selma, Carmina Villarroel as Cristina, Paolo Contis as Martin, Ynna Asistio as Liza, Mark Herras as Abel, Isabel Oli as Teresa, Allan Paule as Marcelo, Beth Tamayo as Linda, among others. “Mga Mata ni Anghelita” (note the slight change in the lead character’s name) premieres on July 2, which is another offering for GMA7’s 57th anniversary. “Mga Mata ni Anghelita,” under the direction of Khryss Adalia and Gil Tejada, airs before “24 Oras.”
