Guapo talk with Mark Herras

Butch Francisco

Why does a good-looking young man like Mark Herras — a certified guapo — still bother to come to a skin clinic like Forever Flawless? To begin with, he is one of the celebrity endorsers of Forever Flawless (along with Lorna Tolentino, Judy Ann Santos and Yasmien Kurdi.) But then, I know of a lot of personalities who do not even bother nor care about the products they are supposed to be endorsing. Worse than that are movie stars who get their liposuction done by Dr. Vicki Belo — only to endorse the competition eventually. But that’s another story. Forever Flawless doesn’t offer liposuction (even if it has doctors in each branch) and Mark certainly doesn’t need it.

But what treatments does Mark need at Forever Flawless? I discovered the answers exactly a week ago today when I hitched a ride with the StarStruck first male winner (2004) in his brand-new Rav4 from the Marikina Sports Park (where we were both part of the GMA Kapusolympics) to SM Mall of Asia where we inaugurated another Forever Flawless branch there.

Since it was a long drive that took us to Cubao, Ortigas, Makati and Roxas Blvd., Mark and I engaged in talk — guapo talk — about skin maintenance.

According to Mark, he visits the Forever Flawless branch in SM Megamall two to three times a month. His main problems are pimples. His face started breaking out at age 12 all the way to his late teens. Now that he is already in his early 20s, Mark feels frustrated that he still has to deal with pimple attacks every so often — no thanks to late nights (because of work) and the stress that is part of the life of a celebrity at his peak. At Forever Flawless, his pimple problems are actually the easiest to arrest. Each pimple is simply injected and the following day all these are gone — like they were never there, especially when covered with a good concealer.

Constant exposure to the sun during outdoor shoots and the harsh studio lights had also ravaged his skin texture in time. To take out the old skin, Mark signs up to a series of power peel, a simple procedure that allows new and fresher skin to come out on the surface. During treatment sessions, Mark doesn’t mind lying practically side by side with the other clients at Forever Flawless. The presence of several other male clients there makes him feel at ease.

Mark’s favorite treatment — it’s his way of pampering himself — is the body scrub at Forever Flawless. From time to time, he develops rashes all over the body. “Kasi madalas akong natutuyuan ng pawis sa katawan” he points out. In the car, he was feeling the discomfort and his body felt itchy all over.

Unfortunately, they had taken out the body scrub treatment for men at Forever Flawless because some male clients tend to get naughty and management would never tolerate that. This only shows that decent and legitimate, repeat, decent and legitimate establishments never allow hanky-panky in their backyard. (The body scrub treatment today is only limited to female clients in Forever Flawless and even at the various Belo Medical Centers.)

But since Mark Herras is no sex maniac (say whatever you want to say about him — he is basically still a gentleman), Forever Flawless liaison Francis Labora lifted the ban for him and him alone. The scrub, after all, was not for any prurient reason. He really had a bad case of rashes that he later showed to Dr. Michelle Cruz of Forever Flawless.

The scrub did him wonders. He felt relieved after dead skin had been removed from his body. Oh, he needed that kind of pampering. After all, he had not slept the night before and joined the GMA Kapusolympics practically without sleep. Gracing the Forever Flawless opening at the SM Mall of Asia, however, wasn’t his last stop. He still had to honor his commitment to Mary Ann Opena (best friend of his manager, Lolit Solis), who was hermana mayora in Barangay Tipas in Taguig.

Without the pampering from Forever Flawless, he would have been pooped. But thanks to the Forever Flawless treatments, he still managed to pull in another flawless evening ahead of him.
