Model Borgy Manotoc, son of Ilocos Rep. Imee Marcos Manotoc and grandson of former President Ferdinand Marcos, did not attend the preliminary investigation at the Taguig City Prosecutor's Office, over a brawl at the Embassy Bar at The Fort dining complex last April 9.

Manotoc is being accused, along with nine other people, of beating up the victim, Carlo Brown outside the bar.

Brown filed charges of serious physical injury against Manotoc and the other suspects one month after the incident.

Brown claims that an apparently jealous Manotoc beat him up after he (Brown) talked to the latter's girlfriend, fashion model Ornusa Cadness.

Manotoc's lawyer Abraham Espejo explained that Borgy got lost on the way and instead headed to the Taguig City Hall instead of the Hall of Justice.

Espejo added that they did not receive their copy of the formal complaint, and asked the prosecutor's office until July 10 for them to submit their counter-affidavit since they only learned on Wednesday about the charges.

Brown's mother, Mara Pardo de Tavera Brown, told the media that while Borgy has expressed willingness to settle out of court, they want to continue filing charges to "teach him a lesson."

Mrs. Brown claimed that ten people, including disc jockey Ronald Passion (aka DJ Malaya) and two of the bar's bouncers, beat up her son.

She said her son is already considering leaving the country due to his distrust of a system that "lets the powerful get away."

"We should stand up against tyranny and abuse of power," Mrs. Brown added.

Espejo was incredulous over Mrs. Brown's remarks.

"What tyranny?! That's an exaggeration! The Marcoses are no longer in power!"
