Now, Mark Herras prepares to dominate GMA Telebabad once more with the ensemble cast of Mga Mata ni Anghelita.

It’s been some time since Mark last graced the primetime block of

GMA-7 in I Luv NY. A whole year later, Mark finally returns to week nights as the brooding Abel, Anghelita’s short-tempered ally in the house of Magdalena.

“Medyo kakaibang Mark ‘yung matututukan nila," Mark Herras begins, detailing his character as a teen-aged boy who doesn’t have a lot of patience for the drama’s titular character. He shares that it’s his first time to handle a role where he isn’t wholly good.

“Pero siyempre hindi sa buong story ‘yun. Kasi magkaka-conflict sa (pagiging) Fantastic Man (ko) ‘di ba?"

Mark adds that the dialogue they’re given is also very different from the ones he had gotten used to.

But just who is Mark Herras in the world of Mga Mata ni Anghelita, and why is this his most different role to date?

“Ako si Abel," Mark explains that his character was raised in an environment that’s less than loving. “Pinalaki ako sa pighati, puro pasakit, ako ‘yung naging taga-singil sa mga sugalan, sa mga negosyo ni (Magdalena, played by Sheryl Cruz). Siyempre pag doon ka pinalaki ng magulang mo, ganoon rin ang magiging ugali mo."

In the series, Mark’s character has already started to turn a new leaf with the help of Lisa, played by Alynna Asistio. Pegged to be his love interest, Mark clarifies that it’s not immediately love that brings them closer. “Kasi siya, naniniwala siya na hindi naman talaga mayabang (si Abel)."

And what makes Abel different from Mark’s previous primetime characters?

“Si Anthony ng Encantadia is mabait na mayaman, tapos meron siyang yabang," Mark continues that while his Encantadia character was a little obnoxious, it was more because of his stature in life and his displacement in the world of the diwatas. “Si Baste (I Luv NY) naman, anak ng mahirap, masipag, ang gusto ay makita lang ang nanay niya."

But while all his characters are very different from each other, Mark says that when it comes to love, all of them are similar in which they give all of themselves to their partners.

He also reveals that even though he’s currently a regular in four shows, he doesn’t have a problem adjusting from role to role. “Si Fredo kasi as Fantastic Man, superhero ka eh. Wala naman akong ibang role na superhero din ako. So hindi mahirap mag-adjust." He adds that whether he’s in Fantastic Man, Bubble Gang, SOP, or even Boys Nxt Door it’s a totally different Mark that’s needed for each of them. “So madali lang, hindi naman talaga kailangan ng malaking preparation."

With Mga Mata ni Anghelita, Mark is clearly ecstatic to be seen on the Telebabad block again. He adds that he is happy with Fantastic Man and his other projects, but there’s still something different with being in a primetime series.

“Wala na akong ibang hihilingin pa. I mean, kahit minsan na hindi na kaya ng katawan ko ng trabaho, happy pa rin ako. Kasi ang dami ng blessings."
